Sarah’s Fall Selections
~ Laughing Stock ‘Blind Trust’ Blend~
Celebrating the 10th Anniversary release of the inaugural vintage of Portfolio – Laughing Stock’s flagship Bordeaux Blend – owners/producer David and Cynthia Enns have a lot to be proud of. Although their wines have garnered numerous awards and accolades, his uncompromising duo is not willing to rest on their laurels. They continue to strive for higher quality wines each and every vintage.
For those who prefer to let their Portfolio rest, I recommend the Blind Trust which receives the same treatment as Portfolio for the first 15 months of production. It is truly a gem!
The perfect balance of proper sugar/brix levels and phenolic ripeness is achieved in the vineyard before grapes are handpicked, hand sorted and aged in separate parcels exclusively in French oak barrels.
A secret blend of Bordeaux varietals is revealed by unwrapping its foil. It offers notes of cassis, black cherry, raspberry, plum, cigar and cedarwood with a lifted aroma of violets. Savory herbs, and spices round out and complex yet approachable palate, perfect for rich dishes, hard cheeses, braised, grilled and roasted meats.
~Maison Brotte ‘Vieilles Vignes’ Vaqueyras~
Plucked from vineyard parcels above the village of Vaqueyras and created from 80-100 year old vines, the Maison Brotte presents you with its ‘Vieilles Vignes’ (old vines) selection. Situated on steep slopes of clay and limestone, the plants now yield super low quantity which encourages high quality concentrated berries with intense aromatic character. Sustainable farming and hand harvesting help to cement the philosophy of perfection in the vineyard.
Fermentation in concrete tanks softens tannins and helps create a fine texture. Aging in 3rd passage oak barrels help to maintain a pure expression of this wines terroir and fruit character.
With only 600 bottles produced each vintage, the ‘Vieilles Vignes’ offers power and structure layered with aromas of dark fruits, red berries, baking spice and bitter chocolate. Sweet tobacco and forest fruits add length and finish to this spectacular find. Pair with duck, eggplant, smoked meat and soft cheeses. Mushrooms, roasts and any grilled or barbecued meats will sing with satisfaction when paired alongside this magical endeavour.
~ Sokol Blosser Delinea ‘300’ Pinot Noir ~
Since 1971, the Sokol Blosser family has been pioneering quality grape growing in Dundee Hills, Willamette Valley, Oregon. Over the last 40 years, the winery has lead the area into a bright and healthy future through sustainable farming and energy efficient facilities. The business was started by founders Bill and Susan Sokol Bosser and has now been passed on to their children, Alex and Alison, who took over as co-presidents in 2008.
Named for the altitude at which it sits, Delinea 300 is a classic example of its varietal and place of origin. Made from 100% estate grown fruit, it expresses cherries, raspberries and crunchy red fruits, forest floor and a minerality reminiscent of the volcanic soils and fertile silts which converge in the Dundee Hills.
With soft tannins and heightened acidity, the wines is extremely versatile for food matching. It compliments mushrooms, salmon, sablefish, tuna, chicken, turkey and rabbit meat quite well.
