THE STORY:
One Saturday afternoon in January, a business magnate, a hotelier and a media maven were having lunch and started talking about how they have each lost a loved one to cancer.
Whether it is a relative, a friend or a colleague – they were all able to relate to the devastation that comes with such a loss. The three friends also have something else in common: a passion for cooking using top quality, fresh ingredients, and the idea that creating a meal for others is an expression of love.
Right that moment, a great idea sparked. Why not take their shared passion for food and turn painful loss into an opportunity to support the effort to end cancer?
On April 25, 2017, Frank Giustra,philanthropist and business magnate; Elpie Marinakis, Wedgewood Hotel & Spa Co-owner and Managing Director; Anna Wallner, TV personality and President & Executive Producer of Worldwide Bag Media Inc, are joining forces to share their unique skills to create an intimate evening of Italian culinary experience, followed by an exclusive performance by Canadian Music Hall of Fame singer-songwriter, Sarah McLachlan.The fundraising efforts are in support of The Eleni Skalbania Fund for Brain Cancer, benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation.
Never before have guests seen Frank Giustra,don a chef’s jacket to cook some of his famous Italian recipes, alongside Bacchus Restaurant’s new Executive Chef Montgomery Lau. Also stationed in the kitchen will be Anna Wallner,who will share a few of her own tried and true dishes in what will surely culminate in an unforgettable fundraising event. Renowned local photographer, Jonathan Cruz,who lost his father to Brain Cancer, will be capturing the energy of the celebration and unexpected candid moments.
This event is truly in memory of Eleni Skalbania,the mother of the two Wedgewood Hotel owners, Elpie Marinakisand Marousa Dumaresq.
